Henle Latin provides challenging and enjoyable Latin studies when coupled with the user-friendly Memoria Press teacher manuals and quiz/test books. First Year Henle Latin is covered in two years, while the Second and Third Years are each covered in one year. Teacher Manuals each outline a one-year course and contain teaching points plus weekly lesson plans. The assignment grid for each week includes recitation, vocabulary, grammar/reading assignments, exercises, and extra-credit assignments. Appendixes contain grammar cards and a detailed answer key. Units I-V cover the basic grammar relating to five kinds of Latin nouns, two kinds of Latin adjectives, the basics of Latin verbs along with a short segment on nouns and adjectives (Henle I, pp 1-224). Units VI-XIV cover more advanced grammar topics including tenses, clauses, 3rd conjugation -io verbs, irregular verbs and more (Henle I, pp 225-464). The Quiz/Exam Books each include 30-33 weekly student quizzes, a final exam, and answer keys for both. Vocabulary Flashcards for each Henle book are white cardstock (3.5”x 2.5”) and have the Latin word on one side with the definition and part of speech on the reverse side.

Category Description for Henle Latin First Year:
In the Henle First Year text, a limited vocabulary of 500 words allows students to master grammar without being overwhelmed with a large vocabulary. Many repetitious Latin phrases and copious exercises produce mastery rather than frustration, and the mixture of Christian and classical content is appealing to students. Exercises and readings teach Roman and American history, the difference between the pagan and Christian worldviews, and the difference between the virtues of the natural man (of whom the Roman was the greatest type) and the virtues of the Christian man, which are possible only through grace.
