Alpha-Phonics: A Primer for Beginning Readers By: Samuel L. Blumenfeld
Well loved set
Alpha-Phonics is an effective, step-by-step program that has taught countless homeschooled children to read, including older struggling readers, dyslexic students, and others. As a stand-alone program or supplement, Alpha-Phonics' systematic phonetic approach will help students build a logical framework for English reading.
Students begin by learning short vowels and consonants, before moving on to consonant blends that teach final blends first, and then initial blends. Finally, students learn long vowels along with the many forms in which they occur. Moving from simple to complex through practice and drill exercises, students will build competency and skill, increasing self-confidence.
The alphabet is taught visually and orally through having children repeat the letters as the teacher points to them, as well as through the integration of kinesthetic activities. The black-and-white hand-lettered pages are designed to teach children with minimal distraction.
The front of this book contains the hand-printed lists of words, without commentary. A section with short lesson instructions (approximately 1-7 sentences) is provided for each lesson in the back. An order of lessons, list of common English spelling forms, and pre-reading alphabet exercises are also included. 180pages, softcover. Grade K & up.
